An open discussions on issues and challenges in taking Infra Red Nanoscopy using the far field technique to applications in clinic and industrial metrology. The discussion was a public dissemination of the LANIR Project at the NanoNet Conference with an overview of LANIR applications.

Publication - Nature Scientific Reports - High-resolution quantitative determination of dielectric function by using s-SNOM

Abstract

A new method for high-resolution quantitative measurement of the dielectric function by using scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) is presented. The method is based on a calibration procedure that uses the s-SNOM oscillating dipole model of the probe-sample interaction and quantitative s-SNOM measurements. The nanoscale capabilities of the method have the potential to enable novel applications in various fields such as nano-electronics, nano-photonics, biology or medicine.

Meeting - LANIR 36 Month Meeting at GNR, Italy, 16 - 17 March 2015

The LANIR Month 36 meeting took place in the facilities of GNR outside Milan in Italy on 16 and 17 March 2015.There was a strong focus by partners on delivering on the objectives of the project with the project end now approaching.

Partners focus was also on how best to achieve the impact from the project and allow for the future exploitation of the research undertaken during the project.

The Month 30 Meeting took place in Limerick, Ireland and was hosted within the Tierney Building at the University of Limerick. The meeting also consisted of a visit of UL LANIR labs at University of Limerick by the Consortium Members. Partners presented and provided an overview of key action for M30-M36 meeting, M36 meeting will take place in Milan on 16 -17th March 2015.

Publication - PLoS One - Multilayered Polyelectrolyte Microcapsules: Interaction with the Enzyme Cytochrome C Oxidase

Abstract: Cell-sized polyelectrolyte capsules functionalized with a redox-driven proton pump protein were assembled for the first time. The interaction of polyelectrolyte microcapsules, fabricated by electrostatic layer-by-layer assembly, with cytochrome c oxidase molecules was investigated. We found that the cytochrome c oxidase retained its functionality, that the functionalized microcapsules interacting with cytochrome c oxidase were permeable and that the permeability characteristics of the microcapsule shell depend on the shell components.

Meeting- LANIR 15 Month Project Meeting

The Month 15 Meeting took place in Dublin, Ireland and was hosted within the Dublin Convention Centre which was hosting EuroNanoForum 2013. The meeting also consisted of a visit of UL facilities at Limerick by some of the Consortium Members. The meeting developed action plans for the next 3 months, in advance of the Consortium and Project Review meeting in September 2013.

The LANIR Project has a Stand at the EuroNanoForum 2013 being held in Dublin, Ireland.

EuroNanoForum is Europe’s largest Nanotechnology and Materials Conference. It takes place every two years and receives funding from the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. ENF2013 (Dublin, 18-20 June 2013) will focus on the commercialisation of nanotechnologies, exploiting its potential for new applications and taking them further from enabling technologies to end products. Members of the project team will be present at in Dublin at Stand S56 (LANIR).

LANIR members took part in the Optics Within Life Science (OWLS) 2012 Conference, 4-6 July, 2012, Genoa, Italy organised by Professor Alberto Diaspro from IIT.

Professor Diaspro (IIT) and Professor George Stanciu (UPB) chaired various sessions in the conference (Event Website: http://www.owls2012.org/ ).

Dr. Christophe Silien (UL) presented a paper on ‘Chemical Imaging with Super Resolution Infra-Red Absorption’.
