The Center for Microscopy-Microanalysis and Information Processing (CMMIP) takes part of University “Politehnica” of Bucharest (UPB). CMMIP is based on the first laboratory in Scanning Laser Microscopy field, established in Department of Physics of UPB in 1977.
Center for Microscopy- Microanalysis and Information Processing (University “Politehnica of Bucharest) was designed and developed as a multi user research facility, covering a broad spectrum of activities in the field of microscopic characterization & analysis. The main research activities within CMMPI are focused towards developments in the fields of scanning light and scanning probe microscopy.
The design of new scientific equipment as upgrades to existing microscopy systems or as novel standalone systems, the development of new investigation techniques for the characterization of various materials and devices by high resolution microscopy together with the development of state-of-the-art image processing and computer vision techniques for enhancing the visualization of microscopy data represent the main targets of CMMIP. In CMMPI a number of investigation methods were developed, such as methods to enable imaging and spectroscopy in the field of biomaterials, nanostructures, polymers, semiconductor materials, semiconductor devices, thin films, optical materials, liquid crystals.
CMMIP-UPB is contributing in LANIR consortium with a very long experience of scanning laser microscopy (instrumentation and applications), its experience in scanning probe microscopy techniques (AFM, STM), its experience in scanning near field optical microscopy30. The CMMIP group has also experience in optoelectronics, photonics and image processing.
